Renard glad as Lyon outfox Twente

"If we can keep playing like this until the end, that would be perfect," said Wendie Renard after Olympique Lyonnais completed a 10-0 aggregate win against FC Twente.

Olympique Lyonnais delivered another reminder of their credentials in the UEFA Women's Champions League, with the 2011 and 2012 European champions following up a 4-0 away success with a 6-0 home win against FC Twente.

Captain Wendie Renard was delighted to see her side snapping and snarling for victory despite their comfortable first-leg advantage as they look to atone for losing the 2013 final to VfL Wolfsburg. "That's a good thing we've done," she said. "We wanted to start well and forget the first leg so we wouldn't take it too easy."

Laëtitia Tonazzi and Louisa Necib struck for Lyon in the first 25 minutes as any theoretical hopes of a Twente comeback were snuffed out, and they ramped up the pressure after the interval, with Élise Bussaglia, Eugénie Le Sommer on target along with substitutes Lotta Schelin and Megan Rapinoe.

"We wanted to press them at the right moment," explained defender Renard. "We did it well. We managed to score two goals quite quickly, and then during the second half we agreed with the coach to play a bit higher and make it more difficult for them."

The next challenge will be a tough one for Lyon, with fellow two-time European champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam their last-16 opponents, but the 23-year-old was not unduly concerned about a reunion with the team Lyon beat to lift their first European title. "If we keep playing like this until the end, that would be perfect," Renard said as she reflected on the Twente game, with thoughts of a fifth successive final very much on OL minds.
