Kerschowski spells out Potsdam regrets

Germany's 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam conceded their UEFA Women's Champions League title to the very side they beat in last year's final, Olympique Lyonnais, leaving forward Isabel Kerschowski to rue missed chances at the start of the second half.

Kerschowski was a second-half substitute 12 months ago in Getafe and converted a penalty in the epic shoot-out that gave Potsdam the title. She started on Thursday at Craven Cottage in London, but Turbine fell behind in the first half and despite a blistering start to the second period could not force an equaliser before conceding again late on.

"It's sad that we lost 2-0, as we had two clear chances in the second half – one I had myself – and we just didn't convert them," Kerschowski told UEFA.com. "We conceded two goals which we could have prevented."

Part of a three-strong forward like with Anja Mittag and Fatmire Bajramaj in the absence of injured Yuki Nagasato, the 23-year-old Kerschowski confessed that Potsdam found Lyon's stellar attack a real handful.

"They have great ball control in midfield," she said. "On the wings they have fast players getting into the box, or making crosses from the byline. And in the first half especially we had some problems with it. We just did too little in attack, and in the end the match unfortunately ended 2-0."

Turning things around when they were struggling in the first half was tough. "The problem then is that you try to change it, but it doesn't work out like you want," Kerschowski said. "We came back out in the second half with a totally different motivation, and we tried to score the equaliser, but it just didn't work out. "

Bajramaj, bound for the side Potsdam pipped to the German title, 1. FFC Frankfurt, is among several players leaving the eastern outfit but Turbine will be in the UEFA Women's Champions League again and Kerschowski knows that there is no point wondering what might have been in London. "We can't change it, we have to look ahead to next season," she said. "We have four weeks' break now, and then we start from scratch again with a completely new team, and we'll see how it goes."
