PAOK FC have appointed former European Champion Clubs' Cup winner László Bölöni as coach on a two-year deal following the departure of Ioakim Havos.
Bölöni guided Sporting Clube de Portugal to the Portuguese title in 2002 and R. Standard de Liège to the Belgian crown in 2009. He also enjoyed a successful playing career in which he lifted the 1986 European Champion Clubs' Cup with FC Steaua Bucureşti and earned 108 caps for Romania. PAOK finished 25 points adrift of Greek Super League champions Olympiacos FC last term.
"It's a very dynamic club, which is something extremely important to me," said the 58-year-old. "To work for one of Greece's greatest clubs was an additional motive; I hope we can get good results and at the same time please the fans with our performances.
"I also look forward to working with the young players at the club, a field in which I have some experience. I am no dictator, nor a friend of the players – I am somewhere in between. I strongly believe that a player's personal interest should coincide with what is best for the team."
