English referee Howard Webb has been appointed by the UEFA Referees Committee to take charge of Saturday's UEFA Champions League final between FC Bayern München and FC Internazionale Milano at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid (kick-off 20.45CET).

The 38-year-old from Rotherham has been an international referee since 2005 and has officiated 47 UEFA matches in his career. At the final, Webb will be assisted by his countrymen Michael Mullarkey and Darren Cann. The fourth official will be Martin Atkinson, also from England.

Webb has handled 19 UEFA Champions League fixtures in total, including six this season. Among them, he officiated the quarter-final first leg between Internazionale and PFC CSKA Moskva in Milan and the group stage game between FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Barcelona in Kyiv. He also took charge of the semi-final first leg of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup in Bremen between Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV.

In addition, Webb has been appointed for several prestigious national team matches, including two UEFA EURO 2008 final round fixtures and three 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying games. A former police officer who enjoys keeping fit, Webb was inspired to pick up the whistle by his father at the age of 18.
