Women's European Qualifiers for 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup: State of play with one game to go, who needs what to qualify

See what is resolved and what teams need when the groups conclude on Tuesday.

The league stage of the Women's European Qualifiers ends on Tuesday 9 June.

Four direct qualification spots for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil will be decided by League A's conclusion on Tuesday, and 32 slots in the autumn play-offs (drawn on Thursday 18 June) are also on offer across all three leagues. In addition, teams are competing for promotion and relegation ahead of the next edition of the UEFA Women's Nations League.

We explain what has been decided and what results teams need on Matchday 6.

Denmark will qualify as group winners unless they lose to Serbia and Italy beat Sweden.

Italy will qualify as group winners if they beat Sweden and Denmark lose to Serbia.

Sweden are confirmed in the play-offs.

Serbia are confirmed in the play-offs and are relegated.

Group A2: France (10), Republic of Ireland (9), Netherlands (8), Poland (1)

9 June: France vs Republic of Ireland, Netherlands vs Poland

France will qualify as group winners if they beat Ireland, or if they draw and the Netherlands do not beat Poland.

Republic of Ireland will qualify as group winners if they beat France.

Netherlands will qualify as group winners if they beat Poland and the other game is drawn.

Poland are confirmed in the play-offs and are relegated.

Group A3: Spain (12), England (12), Iceland (6), Ukraine (0)

9 June: England vs Ukraine, Iceland vs Spain

Spain will qualify as group winners if they beat Iceland, or if they draw and England do not beat Ukraine, or regardless if England lose.

England will qualify as group winners if they beat Ukraine and Spain do not beat Iceland, or if England draw and Spain lose.

Iceland are confirmed in the play-offs.

Ukraine are confirmed in the play-offs and are relegated.

Group A4: Germany (13), Norway (9), Austria (4), Slovenia (3)

9 June: Norway vs Austria, Slovenia vs Germany

Germany have qualified as group winners.

Norway are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation.

Austria are confirmed in the play-offs. They will be relegated if they do not beat Norway and Slovenia beat Germany. If Austria lose and Slovenia draw, they would be split by overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then overall away goals If it does go to overall away goals scored, Austria would avoid relegation.

Slovenia are confirmed in the play-offs. They will be relegated if they lose to Germany, If Slovenia draw and Austria lose, they will be split by overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then overall away goals. If it does go to overall away goals scored, Slovenia would be relegated.

League B

Czechia are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation. They will be promoted if they avoid defeat by Wales.

Wales are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation. They will be promoted if they beat Czechia.

Albania will be confirmed in the play-offs if they do not lose to Montenegro by two goals or more. Albania will be relegated in fourth place if they lose by two goals or more.

Montenegro will be confirmed in the play-off if they beat Albania by two goals or more. They will be relegated in fourth place if they do not win by two goals or more.

Group B2: Switzerland (13), Türkiye (10), Northern Ireland (6), Malta (0)

9 June: Northern Ireland vs Switzerland, Malta vs Türkiye

Switzerland are confirmed in the play-offs and are promoted.

Türkiye are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation.

Northern Ireland are confirmed in the play-offs. They will be definitely safe from relegation if they beat Switzerland.

Malta cannot make the play-offs and are relegated.

Group B3: Portugal (15), Finland (12), Slovakia (3), Latvia (0)

9 June: Finland vs Portugal, Latvia vs Slovakia

Portugal are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation. They will be promoted unless they lose to Finland by three goals or more.

Finland are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation. They will be promoted if they beat Portugal by three goals or more.

Slovakia will be confirmed in the play-offs unless they lose to Latvia by two goals or more. They will be relegated if they lose.

Latvia will be confirmed in the play-offs if they beat Slovakia by two goals or more. Latvia have been relegated.

Group B4: Scotland (11), Belgium (11), Israel (6), Luxembourg (0)

9 June: Luxembourg vs Belgium, Israel vs Scotland

Scotland and Belgium are confirmed in the play-offs and are safe from relegation. As they are level on head-to-head record, if they finish on the same number of points, promotion will be decided by overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then overall away goals scored, then overall wins, then overall away wins then disciplinary points, then higher position in the 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League phase rankings.

Israelare confirmed in the play-offs. They cannot be promoted. They will definitely be safe from relegation if they beat Scotland.

Luxembourg cannot make the play-offs and are relegated.

Group C

Group C1: Bosnia and Herzegovina (10), Estonia (10), Lithuania (8), Liechtenstein (0)

9 June: Lithuania vs Liechtenstein, Estonia vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina will be confirmed in the play-offs and promoted if they beat Estonia, or if they draw and Lithuania do not beat Liechtenstein. Bosnia and Herzegovina will definitely be unable to reach the play-offs if they lose, or if they draw and Lithuania win.

Estonia will be confirmed in the play-offs and promoted if they beat Bosnia and Herzegovina. Estonia will definitely be unable to reach the play-offs if they do not win.

Lithuania will be confirmed in the play-offs and promoted if they beat Liechtenstein and the other game is drawn. Lithuania will definitely be unable to reach the play-offs if they do not win.

Liechtenstein cannot reach the play-offs or be promoted.

Group C2: Croatia (12), Kosovo (12), Bulgaria (6), Gibraltar (0)

9 June: Croatia vs Bulgaria, Gibraltar vs Kosovo

Croatia will be confirmed in the play-offs if they beat Bulgaria, or if they draw and Kosovo do not beat Gibraltar. As they and Kosovo are level on head-to-head record, if they finish on the same number of points, promotion will be decided by overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then overall away goals scored. (If it goes to overall away goals scored, that would favour Kosovo).

Kosovo are confirmed in the play-offs. Kosovo will be promoted if they beat Gibraltar and Croatia do not beat Bulgaria, or if Kosovo draw and Croatia lose. If Kosovo and Croatia both win or both lose, promotion will be decided by overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then overall away goals scored. (If it goes to overall away goals scored, that would favour Kosovo). If both games are drawn, Kosovo will finish second on overall goal difference.

Bulgaria cannot reach the play-offs or be promoted.

Gibraltar cannot reach the play-offs or be promoted.

Group C3: Hungary (13), Azerbaijan (9), North Macedonia (6), Andorra (1)

9 June: Hungary vs Andorra, North Macedonia vs Azerbaijan

Hungary are confirmed in the play-offs and promoted as group winners.

Azerbaijan must beat Hungary for a chance of reaching the play-offs as one of the two best runners-up.

North Macedonia cannot reach the play-offs.

Andorra cannot reach the play-offs.

Group C4: Greece (Pd 3, Pts 9), Faroe Islands (4, 6), Georgia (3, 0)

9 June: Georgia vs Greece

Greece are confirmed in the play-offs and promoted as group winners.

Faroe Islands will finish second and could still reach the play-offs as one of the best two runners-up depending on results in other groups.

Georgia cannot reach the play-offs.

Group C5: Romania (Pd 4, Pts 10), Moldova (3, 2), Cyprus (3, 1)

9 June: Cyprus vs Moldova

Romania are confirmed in the play-offs and promoted as group winners.

Moldova cannot reach the play-offs.

Cyprus cannot reach the play-offs.

Group C6: Kazakhstan (Pd 4, Pts 7), Belarus (3, 6), Armenia (3, 1)

9 June: Belarus vs Armenia

Kazakhstan will be confirmed in the play-offs and promoted if Belarus lose to Armenia or draw 0-0. If Kazakhstan finish second, they could still reach the play-offs as one of the best two runners-up depending on results in other groups.

Belarus will be confirmed in the play-offs and promoted if they beat Armenia, or draw by any scoreline other than 0-0 (if Belarus draw 1-1, they will finish top on overall away goals scored). If Belarus finish second, they could still reach the play-offs as one of the best two runners-up depending on results in other groups.

Armenia cannot reach the play-offs.

How does FIFA Women's World Cup qualification work?

UEFA has been allocated 11 places in the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. One additional team may qualify through FIFA's intercontinental play-offs.

At the end of the league phase, group standings and overall league rankings will determine:

Direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup 

The four League A group winners.

Qualification and seeding for the European Qualifier play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup

Round 1 of the play-offs will be contested in two paths as follows:

Path 1: the four second-placed teams and four third-placed teams of League A will play against the six first-placed teams and two best-ranked second-placed teams of League C. (To rank the group runners-up in League C, the results against the fourth-placed team are not taken into account.)

Path 2: the four fourth-placed teams of League A and four first-placed teams of League B will play against the four second-placed teams and four third-placed teams of League B.

In round 1 of the play-offs, the ties will be determined by means of a draw.

Path 1: the eight League A teams will be seeded and play their second-leg matches at home.

Path 2: the four fourth-placed teams from League A and four first-placed teams from League B will be seeded and play their second-leg matches at home.

The winners of the round 1 play-offs qualify for the round 2 play-offs.

In round 2 of the play-offs, the ties are determined by means of a draw. The round 1 path 1 ties will be seeded for the round 2 draw and the winners of those ties will play their round 2 second-leg match at home.

The seven best-ranked round 2 play-off winners according to the 2026 Women's European Qualifiers overall league rankings will qualify directly for the 2027 Women's World Cup. The one remaining round 2 play-off winner will qualify for the Women's World Cup intercontinental play-offs.

Automatic promotion and relegation for the next competition cycle, 2027–29 

The four group winners in League B and the six group winners in League C will be promoted.

The four fourth-placed teams in Leagues A and B, as well as the two lowest-ranked third-placed teams in League B, ranked 27 to 28 in the overall league rankings, will be relegated.
